Prime Video backs out of streaming Vijay's Jana Nayagan: Reports

PUBLISHED DATE | 12/Mar/2026

Reports suggest that Amazon Prime Video has backed out of its deal to stream Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, following uncertainty over the film’s release.

The platform had reportedly acquired the film’s digital rights for around Rs. 121 crore, expecting the film to release in time for a first week of February streaming window. However, the film’s release has been delayed due to pending censorship clearance, with reports stating that the revising committee recently postponed its screening due to the illness of a member.

Sources claim that the prolonged delay prompted the platform to withdraw from the agreement with producer KVN Productions.

The big-budget film, reportedly mounted on a Rs. 400 crore budget, now faces uncertainty over its theatrical release date, with speculation suggesting it may be pushed to April 30 or even June, amid the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and Vijay’s political campaign through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
