RJ Balaji Clarifies Rumours Around Karuppu, Says Film Was Written Only for Suriya

Filmmaker-actor RJ Balaji has put an end to rumours surrounding Karuppu, the 45th film of Suriya. Speculation had suggested that the project was initially developed for Vijay before being reworked, but Balaji clarified that the reports were untrue.

Speaking at the Elantra ’26 college cultural event, RJ Balaji revealed that he began writing the film on August 21, 2023, and that the story evolved over several months. While different actors crossed his mind during the writing phase, he emphasized that the final version was created only with Suriya in mind.

“I wrote Karuppu for Suriya sir and made it only for him. I narrated just 40 minutes of the story, and he immediately loved it. We began shooting within a month,” he said.

Addressing questions about casting Trisha, Balaji added that both actors share similar industry experience and promised that their on-screen moments would be enjoyable for audiences.

Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film features music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by GK Vishnu, and action choreography by Vikram Mor. The makers are yet to announce an official release date.
