Rajinikanth - Sundar C Buzz: What's the Truth?

Close to the release of Coolie, several director names were being linked to Rajinikanth’s next project. At the same time, talks of a possible Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan reunion under the RKFI banner were also gaining strength. Even Rajinikanth confirmed the reunion in a press interaction post-Coolie release.

However, over the past few weeks, the sudden buzz around Sundar C’s name took everyone by surprise. Reaching out to our sources, we found that the development is true. Like with several other directors, Rajini had indeed met Sundar C, but these discussions actually took place months ago, shortly after the release of Sundar C’s Madhagaja Raja.

It appears Rajinikanth was keen to return to the comedy genre, feeling that his recent filmography had been dominated by violent, don-centric roles with blood and guns. This made him interested in collaborating with Sundar C for a lighter, fun entertainer.

That said, Rajini’s primary focus remains on the RKFI project with Kamal Haasan. With the director for that reunion film still not finalised, the talks with Sundar C have resurfaced. Production houses like Vels Film International are reportedly trying to push this project forward, and it could potentially be a quickie before Rajini and Kamal join forces for their long-awaited collaboration.
