Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth has filed a complaint with the Teynampet Police, Chennai after she found lakhs worth of jewellery accumulated over 18 years since her marriage, missing from her residence. The case registered under IPC section 381 (theft by domestic help) is currently under investigation, after Aishwarya named 3 of her staff to be suspects.

The stolen items consist of diamond sets, uncut diamonds, antique gold pieces, Navaratnam sets, antique uncut diamond with gold, aram necklace, and bangles, weighing a total of 60 sovereigns. The police FIR mentions the value of these stolen jewellery to be Rs 3.6 lakh, but they are estimated to be of a much higher value according to the gold and diamond market rate in India.

In her complaint, the 41-year old has stated that she had kept the jewellery in her personal locker after using them for her sister Soundarya's wedding in 2019. Till August 2021, the locker was at her apartment at St Mary’s road. It was briefly shifted to a residence she shared with her estranged husband - actor Dhanush in CIT colony, and once again shifted back to the St Mary’s road apartment in September 2021. The locker was finally moved to her father Rajinikanth's residence at Poes Garden on April 9, 2022.

However it wasn't until February 10, 2023 that Aishwarya noticed the missing jewellery. “The keys to the locker were kept in my personal steel cupboard at St Mary’s road apartment. This was known to my staff. They also used to frequent the apartment when I was away,” the Lal Salaam director stated in her complaint.
