Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (PS-I) is the first of the two-movie series that are based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's Tamil novel of the same name. Given the visual expectations set for period multi-starrers by films like Baahubali and RRR, a section of the audience was underwhelmed with PS-I post its release on September 30, 2022. 

However Mani Ratnam, Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan were highly praised for their skilled compressing of a 5-volumed book with multiple main characters. And even post the movie's OTT release on Amazon Prime Video from November 4, 2022 [PS-I was available for rent for a full week before that], Ponniyin Selvan 1 continued to be in demand in theaters.

Today PS-I completes 50 days of its theatrical run and makers Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies commemorated this milestone with a new poster. They also confirmed that despite the film's digital availability, the film starring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi is still going strong in cinema halls of Tamil Nadu.
