Buffoon starring actor Vaibhav in the lead marks his reunion with his Meyaadha Maan collaborators - Karthik Subbaraj and Santhosh Narayanan. The movie was revealed to be a thriller surrounding the politics of an actual political party, in its trailer video. Vaibhav was shown played a stage-artist named Kumara and how he gets entangled in a crime 'worse than murder'. 

Writer, director Ashok Veerappan who is making his debut with Buffoon has now added, "the movie is about a buffoon and what happens in his life. The film will also focus on the life of people in the coastal districts of Sivagagai, Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi. Seeing the title, people might think that this is a comedy film, however Buffoon will be an action-packed political subject."
