KGF Chapter 2 Preview - SWOT Analysis

PUBLISHED DATE | 13/Apr/2022

'Rocky Bhai' (Yash) is all set to storm the screens 3+ years since he first wooed the Indian cine audience in KGF: Chapter 1. The assassin-turned-liberator is returning on a bigger scale with KGF: Chapter 2 and here's a quick SWOT analysis of the film:

Strengths

  • KGF: Chapter 1 not just catapulted actor Yash and director Prashanth Neel into PAN-Indian spotlight, but it also gave a major boost to the Kannada film industry. KGF: Chapter 2 is coming off of such a success brand and the anticipation for the sequel is as buzzing as it gets in all the languages it is releasing in.
  • Bollywood veterans Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon's presence in KGF 2 is a major plus for the movie to work additionally well with the Hindi audience. This has already reflected in the film's promotions and advance bookings.
  • A period action drama mounted on a large scale promises of grandeur -  just what the audience will be looking forward to in theaters during a 4-day holiday weekend.

Weakness

  • When KGF: Chapter 1 released in the year-end of 2018, critical acclaim was not a clean sweep unlike for other magnum opuses that had succeeded PAN India. KGF went on to become a blockbuster despite this, and it remains to be seen if the scenario will repeat for KGF: Chapter 2 or it will be better.

Opportunities

  • KGF: Chapter 2's dominance with the Kannada film audience is undisputed. The movie has received maximum number of screens in all locations they will be watching the film.
  • In Hindi (4400+ screens in India, 1100 screens overseas), KGF 2 is almost coming solo with no recent hits still running in theaters and Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey, a direct Hindi movie postponing its release date.
  • Vijay starrer Beast which is KGF: Chapter 2's only competitor in remaining languages has opened to mixed reviews.
  • KGF Chapter 2 is releasing in a total of 10, 000+ screens worldwide. This is including 7000+ screens in India alone, which is expected to be a major contributor for the film's opening weekend box-office collection.

Threats

  • Sequels have historically never worked well in any form of film medium except for some rare cases.
  • Lengthy runtimes aren't an issue for the Indian cine audience per se,  but 2 hours 48 minutes of a serious film could turn tiring unless accompanied by a gripping screenplay.
