Tamil movies releasing directly on OTT platforms and TV channels is the new norm in the pandemic era but the pay-per-view model of showcasing / viewing movies remains eluded for reasons various.
In the last two years, the only Tamil movie which released via the pay-per-view method is Vijay Sethupathi's Ka Pae Ranasingam, which was available to stream or watch on TV for 6 hours once an user paid Rs. 199 digitally.
Ka Pae Ranasingam did not release in movie theaters but another Tamil film, which is slated for a theatrical release, might soon use the pay-per-view model as a simultaneous method of release. MovieCrow has learnt that this movie which is headlined by a famous big-star, will be the first of its league in Kollywood to release via the dual model.
The movie's theatrical and pay-per-view release will be similar to Salman Khan's Radhe, which premiered this May on the big screens as well streaming platforms and TV (via DTH operators) the same day.
