The trailer of Dhanush's upcoming Netflix release Jagame Thandhiram revealed that the movie addresses immigrant issues based on race and ethnicity in foreign countries. Director Karthik Subbaraj confirmed the same in a recent interview wherein he stated that the movie does 'explore issues on current global affairs'.
More specifically, in the Jagame Thandhiram trailer one could see British locals carrying the sign 'Make Britain Great Again', a play on former US president's infamous slogan 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA). The MAGA had several anti-immigrant policies and in the trailer too actor James Cosmo could be seen stating "We do not need more immigrants."
Karthik Subbaraj confirmed the connection by revealing that Jagame Thandhiram was originally set in New York, USA but budgetary constraints and the presence of more Tamilians in UK made him shift the story to London.
