In an interview with the Tamil magazine Vikatan, Nelson Dilipkumar, director of Sivakarthikeyan's upcoming movie Doctor has clarified that unlike what many believed from the movie's first look, Doctor is not a medical crime thriller. He went on to state that the movie stays in Sivakarthikeyan's favourite genre of comedy-action-entertainer 'but without any logical loopholes'.

Doctor, has Vinay playing the villain and Tamil debutant Priyanka Mohan playing female lead. The film is a joint production venture of KJR Studios and Sivakarthikeyan Productions, with music by Anirudh.
