A film that lays bare the plight of the working class who migrate to the cities and are lost in the concrete jungle. One of those films that keeps you aware of the pain of these individuals but never has the gaze of poverty porn. In fact, the characters themselves never resort to self pity nor blame anyone and keep fighting the system with whatever they have. The cinematography is brilliant and captures the essence of the city and the disparities within it. None of this is from the POV of someone who is passing a judgement. There are these lengthy shots of  characters waiting for trains to cross which probably works as a metaphor for the fact that the machinery that is in place keeps running with no idea of these lesser fortunate but the only thing that these people can possibly do is to wait and watch for their turn to cross the hurdles. The humour is understated and there is a lighter vein to the proceedings right through. The performances are delightfully natural. An extremely important film that sort of keeps a mirror on our society and lets you see what is wrong and how inhumane it is for the system to have its priorities misplaced!
