Though an official announcement awaits, it is being suggested that Rajinikanth has offered his famous Raghavendra Mandapam to the Tamil Nadu government to be used as a space for medically treating the Coronavirus COVID-19 patients. Incidentally, before Rajinikanth, actor politican Kamal Haasan had offered one of his home spaces to be used for the same purpose to the government, though no such steps were taken. 

The whole of India, especially Tamil Nadu has been seeing a rapid growth in the number of COVID-19 positive patients despite the country being under complete lockdown for the past 2 weeks. As of April 7, 2020 Tamil Nadu has reported 69 new positive cases increasing the total tally to 690, with Chennai and Coimbatore leading the numbers with 149 and 60 cases respectively.

The death tally in Tamil Nadu due to the deadly virus stands at 8, with the eighth casualty coming in from Vellore district.
