Why Twitter Deleted Rajinikanth's Video & Later Thanked The Actor!

On Sunday, India observed a 'Janata Curfew' by staying indoors the whole day on the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help check the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19. In lieu of the same, actor Rajinikanth posted a now-deleted video on twitter in which he is said to have stated, to prevent community transmission, the virus needs to be curbed totally for 12 to 14 hours.

Since many of the twitterati questioned the legitimacy of the statement asking how staying at home for 12-14 hours could prevent the pandemic from entering Stage 3 in India, Twitter took quick action and deleted the video from its platform. Soon people started noticing the message 'This Tweet is no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules.'

Soonafter the Superstar actor came up with an explanation stating, I had said that if we respect the curfew and stay at home for 14 hours, we can prevent India from entering the Stage 3 (of this pandemic). It was misunderstood as if I said that it was enough if we stayed at home for 14 hours on Sunday alone and was shared widely. Twitter had removed my post for the same reason,”

The star also added, “We must follow self-isolation as long as recommended by the government and concentrate on defeating the disease. I thank those who understood the underlying message of my video and supported me.” Official Twitter India handle acknowledged his statement by quoting, "Thank you for joining us in ensuring the dissemination of accurate information about COVID-19 Thalaiva (as he is fondly known to his fans),"
