After playing the role of Poongodi in Rajinikanth's Petta, actress Malavika Mohanan is all set to play female lead in Tamil for the first time; the makers of Thalapathy 64, Vijay's new project have confirmed that the actress has indeed been brought on board as reported earlier.

Daughter of acclaimed Bollywood cinematographer K.U. Mohanan, Malavika has done notable films like Beyond the Clouds and The Great Father (Malayalam) and this is her first big break as a lead in Kollywood. 

Thalapathy 64 also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Shanthnu and Malayalam actor Antony Varghese among others and has Anirudh for music. The film is said to be a gangster drama and will be directed by Maanagaram, Kaithi fame Lokesh Kanagaraj.
