Veteran Tamil Director Mahendran passes away at 79!

Director Mahendran who is famous for films like Mullum Malarum, Uthiripookkal, Johnny and Saasanam among others passes away earlier today. Mahendran was 79 and had been critically ill for the past week from Kidney-related problems. He is survived by his director son John Mahendran who has in the past directed Vijay starrer Sachien and penned for Settai, Kaashmora among other films.

After taking a break from films and direction in 2006, Mahendran made a comeback with Theri in 2016, only this time in front of the camera doing a character role. He continued to act in films such as Nimir, Seethakaathi, Petta and his last film release was Atharvaa starrer Boomerang in March, 2019.

Mahendran will be cremated by 5 PM this evening and a public homage has been arranged at his residence in Chennai today. Members of the Tamil Film industry remembered the director and shared anecdotes about him on twitter.
