BAFTAS 2019: The Favourite (2018) takes home 7 awards!

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards or as it is commonly known - the BAFTAS are often a good indicator of which films would shine the brightest at the world renowned Oscars. So it comes as no surprise that 2018's period film The Favourite which has been nominated under ten categories in the upcoming Oscars (to be held on February 24, 2019) walked home with 7 BAFTAS. 

Mexican film Roma which also holds 10 nominations at the 91st Academy Awards swoop 4 BAFTAs under the best film, best director, best cinematography and best film not in the English language categories.

Actor Rami Malek won the best actor for Bohemian Rhapsody while the film also won another BAFTA for best sound. The complete list of winners of the BAFTAS 2019 is listed here:

  • Best Animated Film - Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse
  • Best adapted screenplay - Spike Lee, David Rabinowitz, Charlie Wachtel, Kevin Willmott (BlacKkKlansman)
  • Best Editing - Vice
  • Best supporting actor - Mahershala Ali (Green Book)

  • Best British Short Animation - Roughhouse
  • Best British Short Film - 73 cows
  • Best Documentary - Free Solo
  • EE Rising Star award (voted for by the public) - Letitia Wright
  • Outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer - Beast - Michael Pearce (writer/director), Lauren Dark (producer)
  • Bafta fellowship - Thelma Schoonmaker
  • Outstanding British contribution to cinema - Number 9 Films (Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley)
