Director Balaji Tharaneetharan's Seethakaathi which features actor Vijay Sethupathi in the lead is expected to release on December 20, 2018 and at a recent film event, the lead actor was questioned by the media on the release obstacles the film had faced in the past and might possibly facing right now. To this Sethupathi replied,
"..I do not know (if Seethakaathi is facing a release obstacle currently). If that is the case then it is upto the producer to face it. Since the problem is of releasing a whole picture, we cannot just target one person and blame him for it. In a place of business, there are several issues arising in the account of a business...
You can talk proudly that Vijay Sethupathi paid money to release a movie. I am in a position to so I am giving it... But what is the solution to such problems? Many have given money just like me...But nobody can truly solve such problems.."
It is worth mentioning here that Vijay Sethupathi faced a similar release issue with 96, where the film's release was being objected to on account of the producer owing money to TFPC President and actor Vishal. However, 96 saw the light of the day after Vijay Sethupathi intervened and later producer Nandhagopal of Madras Enterprises was issued a red card by the Nadigar Sangam.
Seethakaathi has been delayed several times in the past but the reason behind it remained unknown. In a recent print interview, director Balaji Tharaneetharan had spoken about his producers and had this to say: “The producers at Passion Studios were very encouraging. They had a vision and valued my project. My work is done with filming but the producers have positioned the film quite well. I should thank them.”
