Movies This Week: Sarkar, Thugs of Hindostan & The Grinch make for a starry affair!

PUBLISHED DATE | 10/Nov/2018

The bygone weekend was one of the biggest festive holidays in India and no surprisingly some of the biggest movie stars of the country had their film releases at this time. Whether or not they fared well is something we will see below:

  • Sarkar (Tamil): The film is about an NRI businessman getting involved in a political battle in his home-country, eventually entering the system and trying to change it. Vijay as Sundar Ramasamy has more or less carried the film on his shoulders, much to the delight of his fans. However, Sarkar comes off as a movie for this fandom alone and is an average show otherwise. (Review Here)

  • Thugs of Hindosthan (Hindi): A period film with names like Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fathima Sana Shaikh in the foreground, yet it is Aamir Khan's first miss in many years. The movie about a cold-war between Indian bandits and Britishers pre-independece, Thugs of Hindostan is extremely slow though made on a large canvas.

  • The Grinch (English): Based on Dr. Seuss' classic American Christmas story, The Grinch is an animated movie with the voice of Sherlock, Dr. Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch. The adventure of how grinch and his dog max steal Christmas is told from a humane point of view and can be passed off as a one time watch.

Others
Some other films that made its way to theatre screens this holiday weekend are Kalavani Mapillai which is an action comedy starring Attakathi Dinesh, Billa Pandi starring R.K. Suresh and Adhugo (Telugu) which centers around a piglet and people seeking it for an agenda. All these films have put an average to below average show.
