Movie theatres and multiplexes these days keep coming up with innovative ways to attract audiences and be it the issue of free tickets (Sivasakthi Cinemas, Chennai) or installing a vending machine for sanitary napkins (Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai) each innovation has kept surpassing the other and has been given a warm welcome by movie-goers. Joining these list of theatres with topical innovations is the famous Ram Muthuram Cinemas, which has decided to sell tender Coconut as a part of its food and beverage section.

The Nellai theatre has announced that they came up with the idea, as the their audience had earlier requested for a similar set up and that it was a happy coincidence to be doing during the run of Karthi's Kadaikutty Singam, a film that speaks about the plight of farmers.

Selling of tender coconuts is a first in movie theatre business in Tamil Nadu; Last year the Horticulture Department of Karnataka tried appealing to theatre owners in Bengaluru for a similar move in an attempt to help farmers of that state. However, the idea of selling tender coconuts in theatres and multiplexes was rejected for the fear of unhygienic environment and penalization from civic authorities.
