Today's Google Doodle is a tribute to Dadsaheb Phalke, Father of Indian Cinema

 

Today marks the 148th birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke, the man who directed Indian cinema's first full-length feature film in 1913 and as a tribute to the 'Father of Indian cinema', Google honoured the icon with a doodle dedicated to him on its home page.
 
Born Dhundiraj Govind Phalke in Maharastra, the director learnt film-making from one of the founders of British Film industry, Cecil Hepworth. In a career spanning 19 years, Phalke has made 95 movies and 27 short films, including his first film Raja Harishchandra that made him such a huge icon.
 
The Indian government for its part, remembers the pioneer of Indian cinema through the Dadasaheb Phalke award, which was introduced in 1969 and functions till date as a prestigious prize to people, who have made lifetime contributions in the field of Indian Cinema.
