Last week, the team of Saamy Square released new stills from the film featuring lead actors Vikram and Keerthy Suresh and actor Bobby Simha, who until now was thought to be the villain of the film. But in a latest print interview, director Hari has described Bobby Simha's character as 'not a villain' and instead a chatacter 'pitched opposite Vikram'. Hari has also been quoted as saying, "Usually, in a cop story, there’s a baddie who is a menace to the people in the neighbourhood. But Bobby’s character has a history. He might be a bad guy for 100 people, but he respects his mother.. He is someone who would fight one-on-one and doesn’t care if the guy he’s taking on is a top cop."

It has also been revealed that Bobby Simha plays a character named Ravanapichai (villain Perumal Pichai's son who gets killed in the prequel) and sports three different looks in the film. The movie has completed 80 percent shooting and plans to hit theatre screens for Ramzan this year (June, 2018).

Produced by Shibu Thameens, Saamy Square has Vikram playing dual roles and also starrs Prabhu, John Vijay (as Devendra Pichai), O. A. K. Sundar (as Mahendra Pichai), Soori, Imman Annachi, Uma Riyaz Khan, Sadha among others. The film has Devi Sri Prasad for music, A. Venkatesh for cinematography and V.T. Vijayan for the edits.
