High Court slams notice to theatres for illegally hiking Vivegam ticket rates

In a dramatic twist, the Madras High Court on Tuesday issued legal notices to 28 theatres in Tamil Nadu, for charging extra over the fixed price of movie tickets for shows of Ajith starrer Vivegam. Apparently a petitioner named G. Devarajan had filed a plea against these theatres and had requested a punishment of Rs. 1 lakh per day as a fine for this malpractice.

Since the tickets were sold at an increased rate in the first four days, the court has issued notices and has announced that a further hearing on the same will be held on September 11, 2017. The move by theatres comes as a shocker, as the government has clearly stated a no-increase policy in the movie ticket rates for now.
