Gemini's Self-Competition - Thuppaki vs Poda Podi

Gemini Films Self-Competing Strategy

It is well known that Gemini Film Circuit(GFC) has taken over the global distribution rights for Vijay's Thuppakki from Kalaipuli Dhaanu for a large sum. At the same time, Gemini has also announced the screens for STR's Poda Podi for Diwali. Both Thuppakki and Poda Podi post-production work are progressing day and night to get the movie ready for November 9th and 13th respectively. With both movies produced and distributed by Gemini, one may wonder why this experienced production house is setting up a self-defeating competition.

Music - Sony Music's Poda Podi vs. Gemini's Thuppakki

On the music front, Gemini retained the audio rights for Thuppakki while selling the Poda Podi audio rights to Sony Music. Due to Sony Music's strong distribution network and social media promotion strategy, Poda Podi has finally emerged out of Thuppakki's shadows purely based on its merits. If only these music albums had released with at least week gap, both could have maximized the reach and avoided unnecessary competition says a music industry veteran.

Diwali Clash - Gemini's Thuppakki vs Gemini's Poda Podi

Poda Podi team has been working with new vigor and unfounded sense of urgency to get this Simbu starrer ready for Diwali after almost 4 years of delay. It is perplexing to note why Gemini is keen on setting up a competition between it's high budget Vijay's Thuppakki and STR's Poda Podi. But, experts in the distribution circle believe that Gemini Film may not be that naive to hurt their own movies. Gemini may probably be playing to the tune of STR's wishes until the movie gets fully ready and to further avoid any more delays. Once STR delivers the final copy, Gemini may pull out of the Diwali race. We will have to wait and see how far this strategy will unfold during the next couple of weeks.
