Madras HC fines TFPC with Rs. 1 lakh in Silambarasan TR case!

The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council to pay up Rs. 1 lakh as fine by March 31, 2022 (Thursday), for failing to submit any written affidavits for the last two years in the Silambarasan TR defamation case. The suit was filed by actor Simbu seeking Rs. 1 Cr. in damages for defamation against him, with respect to the movie Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan (AAA).

The Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council and its then president actor Vishal Krishna along with AAA producer Michael Rayappan are the respondents in this case. Hearing the case on March 9, 2022, Justice P Velmurugan expressed dissatisfaction against the Producers’ Council and ordered them to deposit Rs. 1 lakh to the registry within the stipulated time.

AAA was the center of a huge controversy in 2017 and Michael Rayappan had publicly imposed a bunch of serious allegations against his film's hero Silambarasan. TFPC went on to issue a red-card against the actor (revoked in 2021) and Simbu took the matter to court alleging that false information was spread against him and that Rayappan failed to pay his agreed salary of Rs 6 Cr.
