Quick Take on Latest Tamil Trailers
Last week has seen a flurry of first look trailer releases -- 6 trailers were released during the last few days. The most popular trailer was undoubtedly Karthi and Rajesh's "All in All Azhaguraja" which is gearing up for a mighty clash with Ajith's "Arrambam" on Diwali day. Here is our quick assessment of the recent trailers.
1. Standard Santhanam Template Trailer - All in All Azhaguraja(AAA)
AAA brings together the successful combination of Santhanam + Rajesh along with Karthi. Karthi's comic act of imitating Prabhu and 80s look are the highlights of the trailer. The trailer follows the standard Santhanam movie trailer template that we had earlier seen in Pattathu Yaanai, Theeya Velai Seyyanum Kumaru and numerous other movies released in the last couple of years. The songs and visuals look a bit jaded. Is Rajesh's touch missing in the trailer?
2. Hangover Part 2? - Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham
The movie is about a bachelor party with 4 friends in Bangkok. The trailer quickly clarifies to the audience by saying this is not Hangover -2. Due to Jai's excellent performance in the recent hit movie Raja Rani, the expectations is slightly up for this comedy caper starring Jai, Sathyan, VTV Ganesh. Will this be yet another movie relying heavily on half a dozen jokes?
3. OKOK Deleted Scenes - Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal
"Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal" resembled director Rajesh's movie more than his own "All in All Azhaguraja". The trailer looks as if it was stitched together from the deleted scenes of OKOK. It is clear that it is an intentional effort to show that the movie is along the same lines as last year superhit, OKOK. The only difference is that the director of "Sundarapandian" is helming the ship.
4. "Mass" Image makeover for Vikram Prabhu - Ivan Vera Maathiri
Vikram Prabhu's next with Engeyum Eppodhum director has triggered some interest. The sensitivity in which director M. Sarvanan handles his script has been duly noted by the industry. Ivan Vera Mathiri looks like an action investigative thriller with some violent stunt sequences. The heroine didn't look as bubbly as the heroines seen in the director's previous movie. It is clear Vikram Prabhu is desperately switching to an action hero image so he can be accepted by 'mass' audience.
5. Thalathalapthy Fan - Sippai
"Sippai" is Gautham Karthik's next after his failed debut in Manirathnam's 'Kadal'. The movie is based on student college politics mixed with love story featuring Lakshmi Menon. "Sippai" team's attempt to attract the fanbase of Vijay and Ajith's is evident as Gautham Karthik mouths "I am waiting" and dialogue about the significance of Ajith's birthday and May day. Aren't the fans smart enough not to fall for such gimmicks?
6. Successfully Teases your interest - Appuchi Gramam
Check out this interesting teaser from an unknown movie directed by AR Murugadoss' assistant. The teaser is successful in teasing the audience interest. However, the teaser is too short to form an opinion at this juncture. But, the first step has definitely made us sit up and notice.
