A rom-com that's artificial on most parts.

The film gets a convincing premise, brings Nayanthara and Samantha truly together by giving them plenty of combination scenes, but the utilization isn't pleasing. Has a share of enjoyable moments, but at the same time drags to an huge extent with unwanted melodrama on repeat mode that is hard to con...(more)

This romcom with a dream combo manages to entertain only in parts

Nayathara and Samantha have complimented each other well, proving why they are the most sought-out actresses in the industry. Cricketer Sreesanth, who plays Samantha's boyfriend, has done a decent job and manages to impress in the short role. Both the cinematography and editing are straightforward a...(more)

Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Nayanthara shine in this flawed film

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal has Vignesh Shivan written all over it. The staging, comedy and flawed concepts creep in when you least expect it. The director is also self-aware. In a scene, a sidekick tells Vijay Sethupathi that he's doing a shameful job by chasing two women at the same time. And we a...(more)

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal is honest to its core theme, with good music and performances.

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal engages inspite of its predictable nature. Technically, the film is good, with Anirudh's music, colorful visuals, natural performances and a handful of laugh-out-loud comedy scenes that make it a worthy rom-com.(more)

A quirky romcom with potential but not potent enough

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal explores the idea of a particular mental illness. Around the halfway point, I thought we were done with it, and the makers dodged the 'wrongful representation' bullet. But then, later when it is brought back out of nowhere, it did a great disservice to Khatija and Kanmani...(more)

Samantha, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi deserved better than a love letter to patriarchy

The film has a few nicer moments. The romance even works independently, but they get lost amid the problematic chaff. Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal ends up being a cautionary tale for women. It normalises, glorifies, and romanticises every patriarchal trope that women are expected to put up with.(more)

Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu's film is a rom-com with rough edges

The film, nevertheless, is salvaged by decent comedy and Anirudh's splendid music. Vijay Sethupathi is at his effortless best on screen, and alongside both Nayanthara and Samantha, we get some lovely moments between the trio. The film does feel dragged post interval but by the end, it makes up for t...(more)

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara film is a colossal mess

The latent nature of adult comedy in this movie is a big turn off. This film aims to play into the wild fantasies of a lovelorn man by subtly sexualising the leading ladies. But, its neither clean humour nor an outright adult comedy. Its a mess. The main reason is Vigneshs indecisiveness. He want...(more)
