House Owner is a mature tale of romance with an engrossing finish, well supported by a superbly shot flashback!

Lakshmy Ramakrishnan keeps it true to the genre and provides a hard hitting calamity based romance film in the form of House Owner. A few glitches here and there like the Brahmin slang not perfectly delivered by certain characters or the slow paced sequences in the first half that might be a concern for audiences expecting more fizz. Nevertheless, the experience is surely something that is genuinely engrossing and the entire team consisting of the cast and crew deserve credit for churning out House Owner with no compromise. A mature tale of romance and care between Radha and Vasudevan troubled by Vasudevans forgetfulness and the deadly calamity, flood.(more)

A moving survival drama

As an audience, you don't get convinced by the Palakkad accent of the male characters. Lakshmy Ramakrishnan herself has dubbed for Sriranjani's character; so that appears authentic. Barring that, the rest appears forced. That's all right. You don't really mind them.(more)

Lakshmi Ramakrishnan keeps the indie flag flying with a poignant, riveting drama

The triumph of House Owner is in its honest writing and characters that look and behave realistically. Lakshmi's casting is near perfect, considering the fact that she does not run after stars. Kishore delivers a stunning performance in the title role as the patient who cannot understand why he should vacate his house as the water levels begin to rise.'Pasanga' Kishore and Lovelyn Chandrasekhar as the young couple aptly cast due to their freshness. But like in all Lakshmi films, it is the women who anchor the film. Here, it is Sri Ranjani who steals the show as Radha, and is able to project emotions without any hysterics.(more)

A pleasant, affecting survival drama

House Owner is less about gender issues and more about the characters. It's about Vasudevan's relentless search for Radha. What a beautiful decision to name them Vasu and Radha. In the larger context, could it also be about Lord Krishna's unconditional love for his companion Radha?(more)

Moving story of unconditional love in the time of calamity

The last 20-odd minutes of House Owner is devastating and the end leaves you with a lump in your throat. Lakshmy's intention is not to give her story a sad ending but to remind us that no matter what happens to us, we should stick together. It's the unconditional love for each other that keeps Radha and Vasu united, even though the latter has no memory of his wife. But Vasu knows he cant be without Radha and he literally freaks out when she threatens to leave him and go in a scene.(more)

A small film with a very big heart. Go for it!

House Owner is certainly the kind of film you would love to watch. It's a sweet, simple story of life in a city, a bittersweet tale of human frailties, a small film with a very big heart. Go for it! (more)

The flow of the sequences here is generic and unpredictable, making it difficult for one to judge the genre of the film.

Interestingly, you realise that the surprising element has been built up gradually, but not evidently which helps in making the audience glued to the happenings towards the end of the story. Krishna Sekhar's cinematography and Ghibran's music elevate the mood and required tension in many scenes. (more)

Middling Drama on Catastrophe That Hit Chennai in 2015

House Owner is poignant and remarkably restrained with a superb performance by Sriranjani, who portrays tremendous fortitude when dealing with a very cantankerous partner. But she misses a step when the disaster rushes into her house by appearing a trifle too calm. Perhaps, she is a tad underwhelming here, when those moments called for a little more drama. Aadukalam Kishore walks through his part and does not seem to make a mark. The younger Vasu/Pasanga Kishore is more interesting.(more)

House Owner is a gripping, well staged portrayal of elderly romance in times of calamity.

One of the major issues in the film is that Vasu's stubbornness and his adamancy towards not leaving his house could have been substantiated in a better way, other than showing it only through his fits of rage. But these minor issues aside, House Owner is a painstakingly crafted romance that unfolds in the times of a disaster, a Titanic sans the syrupy romance.(more)

Lakshmy Ramakrishnan Takes Us On A Moving Journey Through The Lives Of A Couple, Over Two Time Periods

The film is really an ode to love, and a reminder to cherish what we have when we have it. The younger Vasudevan, away on duty, says, "If I come back, each and every minute is a gift." It really is, isn't it?(more)

A poignant story in a middling film

I wish the film had a different title, one more indicative of the love it talks about. I wish we could have seen more of the Radha and Vasu from before, not just the early days. but also the middle - moments that showed us something beyond the romance. Vasudevan, at one point, says they have to live every moment. Well, did they? Who were they truly before they got stuck with just memories? Maybe with these answers, the story of this house, and its owners, would have felt more complete.(more)

An unexpectedly moving and multi-layered drama

House Owner shifts between Chandrus oblivion and Radhas emergent reality and theres good detailing that leads us smoothly to a climax. Within its taut runtime of 1.45 hours, a seamless drama is woven in with just these two characters, and set inside a house that takes the focus towards the end. (more)
