A credible attempt!

What works for the film is that it does manage to stir our emotions despite all the flaws. In fact for most part of the film, no character is really painted black. Their decisions are questionable but there are some justifications for each of them. Even someone like Arjun who hardly thinks twice before pulling a married woman into an affair is not shown as cheating the woman in question.(more)

Makes a gem out of garbage

After outings like 'Aadhalal Kaadhal Seiveer', 'Vazhaku En 18/9', Manisha Yadhav has gotten a meatier role in 'Oru Kuppai Kathai'. Her portrayal of the character's shaky decision and the regret that she experiences due to the decision are commendable. Especially towards the climax, Manisha Yadhav dishes out a performance that is sure to make the eyes of the viewers well up. (more)

A story that could've been said more effectively

The film is another example of how a promising story core need not necessarily translate into a good film. After all, it is not just what you say, but how you say it that matters.(more)

Kaali Rangasami almost succeeds in narrating a true-to-life story

Director Kaali Rangasami has in his hands a good script, and almost succeeds in narrating a true-to-life story. Mahesh Muthuswamy ably supports him by using the hidden camera technique to make us feel like we are watching a live event unfold. (more)

A Tamil film actually makes us see the straying woman's point of view, without turning us into puritans baying for her blood.

Engeyo Kaetta Kural was made in a more judgemental era, and the woman who strayed from a marriage had to repent - even if she didn't exactly sleep with the other man. (It was a similar story in Rosapoo Ravikkaikaari, 1979, where Deepa played the woman who did sleep with the other man.) She had to die. The men remained blameless, pure. But Oru Kuppai Kathai takes care to indict not just Poongodi's husband (Kumar, played by choreographer Dinesh), but also her father (George). (more)

OKK is a propitious concept that takes a backseat due to undistinguished execution!

OKK is a film, that we usually expect to be driven by the main characters. Here, we have Dinesh Master who fits the bill perfectly but delivers a mediocre performance. We also have a typecast Manisha Yadav, who attracts some attention by putting up a decent show.(more)

An honest attempt that is worth a watch

While the first half moves interestingly, post-interval the film suffers from clichs and drags unnecessarily with a predictable ending. Nevertheless, an honest attempt that is worth a watch!(more)

would have made a better book than a film

Director Kaali Rangasamy's Oru Kuppai Kadhai would have made a better book than a film. The storyline is enough to keep you interested.(more)
