Faithful Remake

It is a little difficult to evaluate Sathya as a standalone product if you have watched the original. While you approve of the maker's intent to be faithful to the original, the problems that I had with the original remain in the Tamil version. While the big twist works, the last twenty minutes is definitely a bit rushed with respect to the reveal of the villain. (more)

A riveting one

What makes the simple premise of the film a riveting one is its racy screenplay with ample twists in regular intervals and mysterious characterisations which add to the overall curiosity associated with the story from the very first scene. (more)

This Sibiraj and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar film is a gripping tale

Without the baggage of being a remake, Sathya is a solid thriller. It does all it can to satisfy the expectations of a pair of fresh eyes. The question to ponder upon is how faithful should remakes be. (more)

Sibi Sathyaraj holds this gripping, well-made thriller together

The biggest strength is its unpredictability

To be fair, the acting is consistently top-notch across the board. It is Sibi Sathyarajs best ever performance and he is the glue that holds this film together. He delivers an intricate, nuanced performance that's hard to fault. Ramya Nambeesan delivers yet another fine performance and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar shines in a new look and her climax portion is a revelation. For a change Sathish does a serious role and he is good. An engaging thriller with satisfying emotional moments

The main plus in Sathya is the intriguing storyline that keeps you guessing as to what will happen next, making up for a good whodunit. Storywriter Adivi Sesh needs to be applauded for creating a watertight script as such. But one feels the overall execution could have been a tad better with such a strong story in hand. Some of the supporting actors' lip-sync are out of place in a few scenes, which could have been paid more attention to. (more)

A fairly engaging thriller that fails to work completely and ends as a mediocre remake

Despite having a promising plot by Adivi Sesh, Pradeep falters big time with his poor casting, as Sibiraj never emotes, and Varalakshmi emotes more than required. Besides, with poorly written dialogues and a dragged screenplay in the second half, Sathya is a pale shadow of super engaging Kshanam. (more)
