If you possess the patience to endure a lot of boredom you may be impressed by the climax and the relevant messages.
Vijay Milton proves his mettle as a cinematographer transporting the viewers into Tarangambadi while the editor John Abraham has done the best he could with the never ending scene footage. Nothing to write home about the music and background by Arunagiri and Anoop Selin. Stunt master Supreme Sundar deserves special mention for the climax fight and the way he has extracted work from Rajakumaran. Vijay Milton's screen writing and direction are more' 10 Enradhukkulla' than 'Goli Soda' for sure. As the saying goes "Good intentions do not make a good film"(more)

A solid comeback from Vijay Milton
Though Kadugu will definitely connect well with the audiences, we wish director Vijay Milton had been a little more subtle . For instance, Rajakumarans dialogues in the second half sounds over the top and had the director underplayed such sequences, the film would have been much better. Also, the film has lip-sync issues in many scenes and the Facebook comedy sequences too appears little odd considering the realistic treatment.(more)

Kadugu Movie Review
Where Kadugu seems unconvincing is in showing us the transformations of Nambi (name is a subtle use of irony). All it takes for him is just a scene to turn either good or bad, and it is hard for us to buy these instant changes in his behaviour. Perhaps because it is played by Bharath, whom we have seen as a hero so far, Milton seems less sure in how he wants to portray this character. The films pacing feels relentless at times, and there are moments when we feel that it should have been allowed to breathe a little. And even though Milton has gone for a melodramatic tone (which is fitting, in a way, for a film about a folk artist), Anoop Seelans background score, at times, feels overdone, especially because the performances are already theatrical. But these are kadugu-level flaws in a film that makes its points in a persuasive manner.(more)

A topical social theme handled in a different and bold manner
A film like this, with a strong plot, needs a powerful technical backing up. But, the technical works could have been even better. Though there are many long single take shots in the film, few shots look unstable at places. There are a few scenes, which end abruptly and the flow isn't steady. The songs are average, and the background score is good, to an extent, but doesn't make a big impact.(more)

Vijay Milton film's biggest strength is its story and characterisation
The film has its flaws, though only 115 minutes long, and it plods along at a leisurely pace. In the first half there is some unwanted comedy and Facebook inspired romance, which does not gel with the story arc. Kadugu is heavy on sledge hammer like melodrama, when it could have been told in a subtle manner. However these are minor flaws in a film where the director take the road less travelled.(more)

A drama about a folk artist has interesting ideas that are lost in the execution
The next year, the director bombed with the Vikram starrer 10 Endrathukulla, an actioner so execrable that anything would seem an improvement. Seen one way, then, Kadugu is a step up. At least, it isnt mindless. It tries to say something. It tries to be about something. It tries to tell a story about people we dont usually see in the movies. (more)
