A Gritty Thriller and a Rocking debut

This is a rocking debut of a filmmaker. Uriyadi has a very simple line as its core. But the film is packed with incidents. The conflict is opened right at the start of the film and there is literally no second wasted. You got to watch the film to realize this. The entire run-time in fact keeps the feel of a climax. A gripping saga of extreme violence

On the flip side, even after being warned the violence in the film is excessive and causes the viewers to flinch and squirm. The pacing is uneven in some portions and a few long sequences like the one when the small boy is killed could have been trimmed down. Since characterization of the four boys is as bad as the politicians the viewer is left with no one to root for. Budget constraints are evident in many scenes. Recommended for film enthusiasts. Brutally brutal in all the right ways!

Few might feel sickened by the coldness of the cruelty that gets displayed on screen. It is definitely not a film for faint hearts. 'Uriyadi' is an adult film, a film that doesnt try to shield the viewer from drug use and brutal violence.

Uriyadi isn't just something you say good things about because it's from a first-time filmmaker. Vijay Kumar doesn't need a condescending pat on the back. He's a solid filmmaker, and hes made a gritty little film.(more)

Uriyadi displays a daring that belies its small-budget, first-film credentials, and stakes its claim in the list of the best films of the year.

The twists and turns in Uriyadi have us on the edge of our seats for most of the time, and the film keeps going back and forth in time to keep us unsettled. (more)
