Known Animal In A Familiar Terrain

Paayum Puli is an eminently watchable flick. But it falls short of what you would expect from Suseenthiran. The film follows a linear narration. More surprisingly it reveals quite a lot quite early on. The undercover aspect is revealed in a few minutes. The trump card of the film which is the identity of the villain too is revealed at mid point. While this in itself is not a problem there isn't enough tension to keep us hooked. (more)

It Crouches And Then Pounces Like A Typical Tiger !

While the second half, specially the last 45 minutes works out really well, the first half is a major worry as the romantic scenes between the lead pair has fallen flat. In fact, it can be said that Kajal Aggarwal's role is a forced infusion in the movie's script.(more)

A nice interval block and a pacy second half make Paayum puli watchable

Etching characters with depth could have brought in impact to the narration. Suseenthiran's uncompromised efforts during the second half increase the pace of the film. The incisive mode of the hero unveiling the end of the film is a true delight to watch. (more)

Run of the mill

Despite its obvious flaws, Paayum Puli is far from unwatchable due to the second half. At best, it's a satisfying watch. Just don't go in with high expectations. Vishal is terrific and convincing as a cop, and is the pick of the lot. Samuthirakani as the pivot around which the film revolves is not convincing. What's missing here is strong characterisation. Paayum Puli is not very convincing

First half Vishal is this aggressive, clever undercover cop, with highly exaggerated action sequences, the second half is a complete contradiction. (more)

A pure entertainer

Paayum Puli is packed with soft progressions. There are hardly any genuine surprises and you could easily guess a large chunk of the proceedings. Vishal radiates a cool and clever vibe, and his moves are full of energy and enthusiasm. (more)
