Happy Ending

Not so Happy an Ending.

Director Raj DK, fresh from the whacky zombie tale Go Goa Gone, chose to leave behind much of the outlandish eccentricity of their first attempt in favor of a more palatable screenplay that is relatable and more mainstream. They basically repackage every single Hollywood rom com clich into a Hindi film that is only partially charming- a lot of this is to do with the scrawny screenplay and casting. Catch it if you must, not seeing it will not be a life altering decision(more)

Happy Ending isn't quite so happy.

Happy Ending, at its core, is pretentious and doesnt quite live up to expectations, save for Govinda, who lights up the screen with his mere presence and those legendary moves. In a film that every cast member is so desperately trying to fit in, he is the only one who actually manages to convince us that he truly belongs there and he knows it.(more)

How different actually is different?

Happy Ending is two step forward-one step backward towards that mission. He seems hesitant in going full throttle for a really different film. The film begins with, Pyaar filmon me hi achcha lagta hai, faltoo baatein edit kar dete hain, and concludes with, Aisa na karne se effect kam ho jayega. You may call it the development of the conflict line; I would like to call it the pressure of commercial cinema. Of course, it is about different perspectives. Happy Ending can hold your attention throughout its length except some not-so-necessary intimate scenes. There is enough in the story to provide you a good dose of entertainment, you just dont need to expect too much. (more)

Happy Ending seeks to have us believe that there are no happy endings in real life.

The hero is certainly mighty distracted. He makes no effort at all to reciprocate the girl's emotion. She stomps off angrily and dumps him, declaring that their relationship is going nowhere. If you expect Happy Ending to get somewhere, you are watching the wrong film. Do not expect the world from Happy Ending and you might actually find in it enough enjoyable patches to make a trip to the multiplex worth your while. (more)

One Govinda is more fun than two Saif Ali Khans.

: If a film endorses all the cliches that it had initially set out to ridicule, is it still a satire? In Happy Ending, directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK start off spoofing Bollywood rom-coms, but well before interval, it becomes evident that their film is as predictable as the genre they're mocking. But that doesn't mean Happy Ending is without its charms. After all, who doesn't like a love story?(more)

HAPPY ENDING is a film which leaves you with a happy feeling.

HAPPY ENDING starts off on a 'happy starting' (no pun intended here!). It starts off with Kareena Kapoor's character (cameo) confessing her love by telling those three magic words to Yudi, a one-book wonder author and someone who is (self-confessedly) not allergic to 'I Love You', but the baggage attached with it'. And when Yudi doesn't reciprocate her feelings, Kareena's character shows him the middle finger (quite literally!). No sooner does she exit Yudi's life, enters Vishaka (Kalki Koechlin), a dentist by profession, and is head over heels in love with Yudi. She loves Yudi so much that she even installs a mobile app called 'Nospace' on his cell so that she can keep track of his whereabouts. It drags in parts but is worth a watch, at least for Saif's performance.(more)

A paisa-wasool entertainer!

the film offers a generous dose of laughter, some stunning locations that are a treat to watch and a refreshing comeback of Bollywoods Hero Number One, among others. Directors Raj Nidimoru, Krishna DK have managed to provide a fresh perspective to an otherwise drab storyline. So while the film mocks other films that cater to the masses (their words, not ours) and aim at giving you three hours of paisa-wasool entertainment, Happy Ending follows the same trail too. Does that make it a paisa-wasool entertainer then? Oh yes!(more)
