Gabbar Singh Hits the Bulls-Eye
Dabaang was a major 'mass' blockbuster in Hindi when it was released right when Hindi movies were catering more towards niche multiplex audience and ignoring B and C belts. The movie employed a lot of the heroism and actions, usually seen in South Indian movies. This triggered a major trend of remaking Tamil movies to Hindi. Most of these Tamil remake movies continued to break new Box Office records in Bollywood and also reviving a number of regional movie industries like Bengali.
Osthe - STR failed to recreate the magic
When Dabaang was remade in Tamil as Osthe with Simbu in the lead and Ghilli Dharani directing the movie, there were lots of expectations. The hype was further heightened with Thaman's songs, STR's dancing prowess, Santhanam's comedy and Mallika Sherawat's moves, the trade assumed it would be a confirmed hit to the point where STR was also reportedly planning to hike up his salary to more than 10 Crores. But, the movie failed big time and became an example of a bad remake despite following a scene-by-scene replication.
Gabbar Singh - Pawan Kalyan's One Man Show
Gabbar Singh is a Telugu remake of Dabaang acted by the real Power Star Pawan Kalyan released this weekend. Pawan Kalyan, brother of Chiranjeevi, acting only in his 19th movie commands the biggest opening pull in Telugu even with stiff competition from the younger generation. The movie has phenomenal opening and expected to have revived the career for Pawan Kalyan after his below-average rated Panjaa directed by Vishnuvaradhan and Puli by SJ Suryah.
One of the Gabbar Singh reviews called it "as a full-course meal for the Power Star's fans, without any doubt! The film is far better than most other commercial films of the day". Another review claimed that "Pawan Kalyan made sure that he is the sole reason for you to watch the movie and get entertained". This movie was do-or-die for Shruthi Haasan who was starting to get written off as unlucky heroine after a series of failed movies. This movie is expected to revive Shruti's career.
