Ilayaraja's most expensive work to date

The biggest reason for high expectations surrounding Neethane En Ponvasantham(NEP) among fans is the coming together of Gautham Menon and Ilayaraja. NEP is the most expensive work of Ilayaraja till date. Ilayaraja's remuneration alone is reported to be 1 Crore and when you add all the expenses associated with singers, orchestra, musicians and other logistics of conducting composition out of London, the overall price tag is estimated to be around Rs. 2 Crores. It is not completely out of ordinary when compared to the cost of Harris Jayaraj, who has a tag of almost 3 Crores for his movies.

There is no doubt that the songs and music will surely enthrall the fans. However, the trade doesn't think the same way about paying the premium. The Tamil distributors are cautious about assessing the distribution rights of NEP until the release of music album. In Telugu, prominent producer had already walked out of the bilingual project refusing to pay the initially agreed upon amount claiming the decline in the value in Telugu market.
