Tanu Weds Manu Review: A worthy second turn

Tanu Weds Manu was the film that changed the tide for Kangana. Relegated to low quality films and roles that were taking her career down a spiral. Now, four years hence, the actress is in a zone where she can do no wrong. Tanu Weds Manu Returns is ample proof of this fact. The ease with which she slips into a double role that is defined and different from each other like chalk and cheese.

Tanu and Manu are married, the love that brought them together has evaporated, they are on the verge of separating. A freak anger incident at the counsellor sends Tanu back to her home in India from London. Manu follows back, but only to find a look alike of his wife, who he falls in love with.

The estranged wife gets to know of his new found interest and all hell breaks loose. An interesting mix of pace, smart lines, local flavor and delectable dialogues, TWMR breezes along like a dream from the word go. A minor hiccup in the end notwithstanding, the film is easy, light and yet full of substance. The performances top notch, across the board- save for the grouse of less screen time for Swara Bhaskar and Deepak Dobriyal who sufffer from underwritten parts this time round.

Madhavan plays an ideal foil to Kangana’s dual roles, knowing when to take a back seat and let the story take center stage. Assured and at ease, Kangana drives the film through effortlessly ahead. Watch this film only and only for her.
