Visitor Column - Is Dhanush inspired by Simbu?

Dhanush and Simbu started as hero in 2002. They have both taken different routes to reach where they are today. Dhanush is known as Director's artist while Simbhu takes more active role in calling the shots and shaping the outcome of his movie. Irrespective of the box office outcomes, both Simbu and Dhanush have always been compared in the same vein and been considered the leaders among the pack of their generation.

If you closely track their careers and some of the activities, it appears Dhanush has actively followed Simbu's foot steps. For example, even the title card of '3' shown in the image above seems to have borrowed from Simbu's Vaaliban. Here are other noticeable similarities,

Lyric Writing and Singing - Simbu is known for starting the new trend of ultra-simple Tanglish lyrics (e.g., Where is the Party, Loosu Penne, Evan Di Unnai Pethan, Pondatti). Simbu has been a singer and involved in music composition right from the beginning of his career. On the other hand, Dhanush also followed Simbu's style of lyric writing for Kolaveri and 'Kadhal en kadhal'/' Oda oda dhooram' songs in Mayakkam Enna. Dhanush has also gotten active in singing and music compositions very recently.

Direction - Simbu has been officially and unofficially directing a number of movies from early on in his career. Dhanush is taking on this responsibility recently by being keenly involved in the making of "3" and has also expressed interest that directing a movie is his ultimate goal.

Love Anthem and Sachin Anthem - Simbu came up with the title for his song as 'Love Anthem'. Dhanush quickly followed with 'Sachin Anthem'. This triggered some heated exchange of words about Dhanush copying Simbu on the micro-blogging site.

There are many more such instances where Dhanush has tried to emulate Simbu. It is not clear whether Dhanush is intentionally doing it or he is unknowingly inspired by Simbu.
