Anurag Kashyap has got the rights to Geeta Dutt's iconic song 'Jaata Kahaan Hai Diwane' from the Dev Anand-starrer 'CID'. 'CID 'was a roaring success in 1956, so the makers of 'Bombay Velvet', that is also set in the 1960s, wanted to leave no stone unturned to capture the look of the time and thus, they got the rights to the song.

The original song which was picturised on the legendary Waheeda Rehman, has been re-versioned with a more contemporary feel and has been picturised on Anushka Sharma who plays a 60s superstar singer named Rosie Noronha. Rosie gets noticed as a singer in a club and becomes the marquee performer at Johnny Balraj's (played Ranbir Kapoor) Bombay Velvet.

Bombay Velvet directed by Anurag Kashyap starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in lead roles is scheduled for release on May 15, 2015.

Bombay Velvet is an adaptation of Gyan Prakash's book Mumbai Fables and narrates the story of how the city became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music. The film tells the story of a boxer, Johnny Balraj, and an aspiring jazz singer, Rosie, and how their hopes and dreams collide with their individual realities.
