1. Vishal Bhardwaj (Haider)

Haider has the word ‘Masterpiece’ written all over it and the reason for that is the man behind the camera, music and the script – Vishal Bhardwaj. To pick a Shakespeare’s tragedy is itself a daunting task, but the way he adopted and improvised on Hamlet was exceptional. No one captured the real Kashmir as he did.

 

2. Vikas Bahl (Queen)

 After the national award winning children movie ‘Chillar Party’, Vikas Bahl took us on a beautiful journey of a girl who is out to discover herself. His storytelling was the major factor which made it one of the most feel-good movies of Indian cinema.

 

3. Anurag Kashyap (Ugly)

Ugly was the darkest movie of the year. It is a devastatingly terrific a film which was so very close to reality. Anurag Kashyap with incredible detailing, characterization and script takes your breath away and fills you with some very extraordinary afterthoughts.

 

4. Rajkumar Hirani (PK)

One can’t match the beauty with which he can make movies - So hilarious, so subtle and so thoughtful! This man’s a genius in terms of blending commercial cinema with good content. He gives you wings to think with his out-of-box storyline.

 

5. Nitin Kakkar (Filmistaan)

Filmistaan was funny, witty and most importantly ‘new’. The debutant Nitin Kakkar brought the issue of Indo-Pak relations in very light hearted manner in form of the love of art of both the countries. His concept in itself of delightful combined with some outstanding performances by the actors.

 

6. Homi Adjania (Finding Fanny)

Homi Adjania most adorable fact is that he is always up for experiments. Finding Fanny had a very different – Happy-Go-Lucky feel to it and Homi was spot on with the characterization. A great effort by him to pull off a movie like this one in the times of complete masala flicks.

 

7. Imtiaz Ali (Highway)

It’s not the destination but the journey that matters and Imtiaz Ali very rightly depicts it through the unexplored highways of India!  He brought to life, a film about breaking free from the things that bind you, an experience you have by chance.

 

8. Hansal Mehta (Citylights)

After Shahid, Hansal Mehta again hits the audience with the harsh reality of the world. He brilliantly shows the story of how a man gets lost in the cogwheels of the CITYLIGHTS and brings out the best from his talented actors!

Simple.Sweet.Subtle. These three words define Rajat Kapoor’s Ankhon Dekhi! With a terrific storyline and smartest settings, Rajat Kapoor evokes in us a thought rather a question of ‘To be or not to be’!

 

10. Abhishek Chaubey (Dedh Ishqiya)

With the stunning actresses, the naughtiest actors and most grand set-up, Abhishek Chaubey’s Dedh Ishqiya is a visual extravaganza. From the wittiest dialogues to the out of the box storyline, Abhishek makes it a very compelling watch.
