Kill Dil Movie Review - Stereotypically chaotic & ends up in a mess!
After the impressive ‘Saathiya’ & the quirky entertainer ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, director Shaad Ali brought us Jhoom Barabar Jhoom in 2007 which was one of the worst bollywood movies ever. We all expected him to get back in the groove with ‘Kill Dil’, but that didn’t happen.
Once upon a time in North India, two killers – Dev (Ranveer Singh) and Tutu (Ali Zafar), roamed free. Abandoned when young and vulnerable, Bhaiyaji (Govinda) gave them shelter and nurtured them to kill. All is normal in their lives until destiny throws free spirited Disha (Parineeti Chopra) into the mix & Dev falls in love with her instantly. However, Bhaiyaji is against this love. What happens next is the rest of the story.
The storyline is nothing new. It moves along the lines of many films from the past, one of them being the recently released Desi Kattey. There is too much confusion in the film and Shaad Ali overdid a lot of elements combined with poor writing and screenplay. Also, a few fashion classes are highly recommended to the creators and the actors involved.
There are abruptly timed songs that disrupt the rhythm (whatever little it was) of the movie every now and then. There are songs for every occasion – 4 songs before the interval & 4 after it. The music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is a disappointment and does not bind you at all except for ‘Bol Beliya’ & beautifully shot ‘Sajda’.
Talking about the performances, the comeback star Govinda is very poorly utilized by the director. Such a talented actor with such a great dialogue delivery has not been able to justify himself with the role of ‘Bhaiyaji’. Shaad Ali failed to understand that he is much more than just dance.
Ranveer Singh has also not experimented with this one. Filled with energy he offers a decent performance but far from what he is capable of. Parineeti Chopra apart from the appalling wardrobe is boring and irritating. She really
needs to do some character building exercises. Ali Zafar did a better job than his previous movies in the
past but has still a lot of things to improve upon, especially his expressions & modulations.
To conclude, Kill Dil is a stereotype and offers nothing new to the audience. It’s a complete waste of money and therefore advisable to be skipped!
