Happy New Year Highest Opening Day Collection

Happy New Year starring Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Soonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah directed by Farah Khan hit the screens yesterday. The film has had a phenomenal opening on Day 1.

Happy New Year has collected Rs. 44.97 crores in the domestic box office on its opening day. The film has beaten the record of Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3" which earned Rs. 36.22 crores on its opening day. Dhoom 3 which released last year was at the top as the single highest Day 1 grosser. Happy New Year has surpassed the collection of Dhoom 3 and has become the highest opening day grosser in Bollywood.

Hindi - Rs. 42.62 crore

Telugu - Rs. 1.43 crore

Tamil - Rs. 92 lakh

Total - Rs. 44.97 cr

The film has taken an extraordinary opening. The advance booking for the film was phenomenal. The occupancy was 80 percent at most places. While the trade experts had expected the film to collect around Rs. 40 crore on its opening day, the film had collected even more than that.

Shahrukh Khan breaks his own record

Shahrukh Khan starrer Chennai Express which hit the screens last year had grossed Rs. 33.12 crore on its opening day. His latest release Happy New Year has now emerged as the single highest one day earner in Bollywood. 

Happy New Year marching towards 100 crore

The film will cross the 50 crore mark on its second day today.  Looking at the first day box office income, its likely that Happy New year will earn Rs. 100 crore in its opening weekend.
