Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami Movie Review -Of the Small wonders of life

Ameet Bhuvan

In the busy race that life is for most of us in today’s times, it is rare that we pause to ponder on things that really matter - like families, honesty, love, compassion, passion. A common man’s world is full of never ending struggle and by the time he earns enough to realize his dreams, it is too late for him to do anything. Such a common man’s life is what Ekkees Toppon ki Salaami brings forth.

Anupam Kher plays a father, an honest common man who spent his entire life raising his two sons and leading a life the old fashioned pure way. His lifelong wish, is to get a 21 cannon salute, the ultimate sign of respect - something that his two sons want to fulfil to honor their government servant father’s life. How they get about achieving this, in the process breaking every single ideal of the father, is what this hilarious and poignant little gem is all about.

Essayed by Anupam Kher, the father is an endearingly goofy character whose truthful soul shines through his child like demeanour. His two sons, played effortlessly by Manu Rishi and Divyendu Sharma bring out the contrast between the times of their father and ours. How life has changed, how morals have loosened, all of it is depicted in a manner that is more funny and less preachy.

At no point in fact does director Ravindra Goutam allow the movie to take on a holier than though approach to things- evenly light hearted and humorous yet underlined by a deep sense of nostalgia and pathos, the movie breezes through with ease. The other strength of the film is the beautiful Neha Dhupiya - here is one actress who refuses to let her self be slotted in the conventional Bollywood paradigm. She is fun, seductive and delivers the acting chops without any difficulty. Ram Sampath’s music too adds a lot to the films charm.

On a weekend saddled with no big Hindi releases, this small film can easily be missed. Yet, for those who care for some heartwarming piece of good film making, this is a decent watch.
