Pizza 3D Movie Review - Decent Scares Sans the Sleaze
Ameet Bhuvan
It is tough these days to imagine a Hindi Horror film without the mandatory sex and skin show that does no justice to either the story or the idea of sleaze. Thankfully, Pizza 3D is a remake of a Tamil film that feels no need to depend on titillation to interest the audience. A decent story with a fun element running along, Pizza 3D is a fun film to watch with friends.
What I can tell of the story line without giving out much is pretty much what one sees in the trailer, a pizza delivery guy delivers pizza into a house that is not quite normal. A lot of things go wrong, as we are spooked with predictable yet interesting 3D tricks that really keep you on the edge of the seat. The thrills are placed well in the story, never an over dose and never absent when needed.
The climax of the film is the actual trick, some may take it as a really cool fun way to end the story. For others it might be a huge let down after the build up of the entire film’s length. Either ways there is a lot of fun to be had
throughout.
Performances in the film are good as well. Akshay Oberoi and Dippanita are top notch, they deliver what is expected of them not once going over board with the shrieks and shocks act expected of them. It is Parvathy though who seems completely out of place, trying really hard to fit into an ensemble that is much higher in talent than her. None of the cast is a known name, a fact that works to the films advantage since now the story takes center stage and the actors images do not come in the way of our enjoyment.
Director Akshay Akkineni too is fresh in his approach to the genre with a predictable tale. He steers clear of the horrer trend that has swamped Hindi horror flicks of late. He gives us a haunted house with a wafer thin premise of a pizza guy coming in and getting stuck yet manages to make it riveting, almost.
The film was not promoted much, has released on a weekend that sees at least three other such low key releases, and runs a huge risk of getting lost in the hype over next weeks Salman Khan block buster. Yet, with its story and abundant thrills, Pizza 3D is worth your money. If there is one film you must watch in the theatres, it is this one.
