Hate Story 2 Movie Review - Flawed Vengeance

Hate Story 2 is a carelessly assembled product branded and marketed to ride on the success of its prequel.  Not all Hindi movie sequels have lived up to the viewer’s expectation and Hate Story 2 is no different.

While the movie carries on the theme of vengeance by the lady protagonist “Surveen Chawla” aka Sonica as the mistress of a Mumbai politician in power - Mandar Mhatre (Sushant Singh), the two hours fifteen minutes is a drag. 

The plot and direction appears to be so stale and predictable that the ‘Erotic Thrill’ the movie promises fails to inspire you. Except for the performances of Surveen Chawla and Sushant Singh, the movie does not offer you anything worth your time and money.

The story revolves around Sonica (Surveen Chawla) who is made psychologically captive by Mandar Mhatre (Sushant Singh) as his mistress while he is supposedly her guardian following her parent’s death.  Her interest is photography and finds her love in Akshay (Jay Bhanushali) who is also studying photography in Mumbai.

Surveen confides in Akshay of her plight and the couple elope to Goa with the intent to escape Mandar’s territory. What happens is a copy paste of what you typically find in all Hindi movies. They are followed and Akshay is killed in front of Sonica who is later buried alive in a coffin.  Her rescue and escapade from hospital to so many what not places is poorly plotted.  Sonica’s CT scan report points out partial damage to the brain due to lack of oxygen while being in the coffin, thus she is prone to abnormal fits.  The occurrence of these fits in insignificant parts of the movie and its disappearance while she gracefully carries out her revenge against her enemies is something you will not digest.  The on and off appearance of Akshay in Sonica’s memory is boring and does waste the screen time.

The songs are good but only serve as fillers.  Sunny Leone’s pink lips not enough to salvage the movie.
