Nanban Music Review
The expectation created by the magical combination of Shankar, Vijay and Harris coming together for the first time has made the Nanban the most awaited album of the year. Based on the pre-release hype and first day response, Nanban is already termed an instant hit album with no complaints heard from anywhere. The record breaking sales of audio CDs are expected based on the demand seen by music distribution networks.
Lyrics: Vivega, Singers: Krish, Suchith Suresan
The song starts with some heavy beats, reminding you of Queens' "We will, We will, Rock you", The resemblance ends there. With a good backing from lyricist, this is the friendship anthem song with heart-touching lyrics. The song is interspersed with light notes seen in the trailers.
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar, Singers: Hemachandran, Mukesh
The phrase 'All iz Well' has arrived to Tamil Nadu and Harris has given a nice twist to this phrase by sprinkling spunky, catchy, groovy touches to the song. Also, the use of percussions and orchestration is nice in this song. The lyrics also are well aligned with the 'feel' of this song expected to convey.
Lyrics: Madhan Karky, Singers: Vijay Prakash, Chinmayi, Suvi
Ask Laska is the pick of this album. Karky's creativity with Harris's wonderful melody just blend in so seamlessly. This song is a repeated listen material. Vijay Prakash and Chinmayi excellent choices for this song. Novelty factor of song written in 16 languages will grab your interest, Harris' music will ensure the song reaches the top and Karky's lyrics will make sure it will stay there up on the charts. Not to mention that Shankar's excellent picturization and Vijay's screen presence which will further take it to the next level, guaranteed.
Lyrics: Madhan Karky, Singer: Aalap Raju
Short and sweet melody with heart tearing lyrics by Karky. Aalap Raju has mastered the technique of breathing in between lines imparting a sense of vulnerability in this genre of love songs.
Lyrics: Pa.Vijay, Singers: Vijay Prakash, Javed Ali, Sunidhi Chauhan
Signature Shankar song that is in the same genre as "Rendakka", "Gopala Gopala", "Kilimanjaro". This could be the weakest song in this soundtrack with the lyrics sounding trivial. It doesn't matter. Shankar will make this the most popular track and push this into your system whether you like it or not. This song is expected to be picturized on a grand set with scores of dancers in the foreground and background with some terrific dance moves from Vijay and Ileana.
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar, Singers: Ramakrishnan Murthy
This is a beautiful melody with nice use of classical instruments and touching lyrics. This situational song expected to move the story forward.
Overall, Harris has found the right balance of what is expected from both mass and class fans. Harris has successfully managed that risk by satisfying both the groups. Within the commercial format, Harris has experimented with sounds and orchestration. The album is refreshing and exceeds the high expectations from fans. All iz Double Well!
