MovieCrow Box Office Report - May 1 to 4

Nayanthara's Nee Enge En Anbe, which is the remake of Kahaani, had hit the screens on May 1 along with The Amazing Spider Man 2. The distributors wanted to cash in before the release of Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan (May 9), which is sure to take over most of the screens in the state at least for next two weeks. Check out the box-office rankings of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend (May 1-4).

1. Vaayai Moodi Pesavum

As the movie managed to create a positive buzz after its release, more screens were added for the film, thereby fetching it the top spot during last weekend. The quirky theme and the innovative approach of handling it have been the talk of the town.

2. Nee Enge En Anbe

Nee Enge En Anbe received decent reviews from the critics, while it was termed as disappointing by most people who had watched the original version. It looks like the changes in the script did not impress the audience much.

3. Tenaliraman

Vadivelu's Tenaliraman has slowly dropped to the third place, after being on top for two consecutive weeks. However, the movie is still the most preferred choice of family audience during weekends.

4. Ennamo Nadakuthu

Vijay Vasanth's Ennamo Nadakuthu has climbed to 4th place, as more shows were added after the initial positive reviews. The lesser known team has come up with a tense thriller, which is reaping the rewards now.

Other Movies

Sivakarthikeyan's Maan Karate is still getting respectable occupancy levels across all centres. Already being termed as a hit by trade pundits, Sivakarthikeyan's market value has increased several folds as he has been delivering hits continuously.

Vishal's Naan Sigappu Manithan is being slowly replaced by new releases, while Yennamo Yedho fizzled out at the box office due to negative word of mouth.

Upcoming week's release(s)

Come May 9, all roads will lead to a theatre that screens Kochadaiiyaan. The movie is expected to take a humongous opening and the makers of other films are not in a mood to compete with this most expected film of the year.
