Preview of Thenaliraman, Damaal Dumeel and 2 States

This week will see the release of two Tamil movies - Thenaliraman, Damaal Dumeel and Hindi film 2 States, with previous weeks' releases still doing decent business at the box office.

Thenaliraman

• Touted as the Vadivelu's comeback film after a long hiatus, the movie is a period comedy film similar to his smash hit Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi. Vadivelu will be seen in dual roles and Yuvaraj of Potta Potti fame has directed this venture.
• Music is scored by Imman, however music buffs aren't satisfied with the songs. It is to be seen if he compensates with the background score.
• It will be interesting to see how this movie differs from Vadivelu's Imsai Arasan, as some of the visuals (Chinese government scenes) in the trailer remind audience of Imsai Arasan.
• Thanks to Vadivelu's charisma and production house AGS Entertainment, this movie will be getting maximum screens among this week's releases.

Damaal Dumeel

• Vaibhav, who has played important roles in movies like Saroja and Mankatha, is turning hero with this film. Directed by newcomer Shree, a former associate of Shankar, the movie is touted to be a black-comedy-thriller, a genre which is getting popular in Tamil.
• The trailer of the movie appeared interesting, however, the movie will pick up momentum only if the word of mouth after the release is good.

2 States

• Based on Chetan Bhagat's book under the same name, Bollywood movie 2 States will occupy more screens in multiplex, thanks to the buzz level surrounding the book.
• Directed by Abhishek Varman, the movie has Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead. Veteran actress Revathy will be seen as a South Indian mother in the film.
• 2 States would be the first priority of city youngsters this weekend, unless the other two Tamil movies make a mark in the initial days.

Common Threats

• The biggest threat for all the movies is IPL 7, which kickstarts today. There could be a huge dent in the collections of the evening and night shows as people might prefer to catch their favourite matches.
• Also, previous weeks' releases Maan Karate and Naan Sigappu Manithan are still enjoying good run at the box office. It is to be seen how many theatres decide to replace them with the new movies, that do not boast of star value.
