Suriya on Faith - "I Only Visit the Temple in a Crisis, But RJ Balaji Lives It Every Moment"

At the Hyderabad pre-release event for Karuppu, Suriya spoke warmly about his bond with director RJ Balaji, his relationship with God, and what audiences can expect from his 45th film hitting screens on May 14.

Heaping praise on RJ Balaji, Suriya said, "I always call RJ Balaji 'director'. I have a lot of respect for his journey. I always believe that I can only be one person in this lifetime, dedicated to mastering one passion. But he is multi-talented, an RJ, a commentator, an actor, a writer, and a director. But he is also an amazing friend, father and team leader."

Suriya then spoke about RJ Balaji's deep spiritual connection and how it differs from his own. "Wherever there is faith and hope, magic happens. I am also a God-fearing person, but I only go to the temple when there is a crisis. But RJ Balaji, in every decision he makes, in every moment of his life, he is connected with God," he said. He then revealed something remarkable about how he agreed to do the film. "In the past few years, this is one of the films to which I agreed after talking to RJ Balaji for just 30 minutes. I think Veerabadhrasamay/Karuppusamy was there in the room when we met," he said with a smile.

On the film itself, Suriya promised, "The first half will be a nice emotional courtroom drama. But in the second half, there will be a lot of theatrical moments, mass masala moments, humour and fun. That's the promise I can give you."

Karuppu also stars Trisha, Sshivada, Swasika, Yogi Babu, Anagha Maaya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Indrans, with GK Vishnu on cinematography and Kalaivanan editing.
