Parasakthi collected ₹27 crores worldwide on Day 1, with Tamil Nadu contributing around ₹12.35 crores. Early reports suggest that Day 2 collections are also expected to be in a similar range.
Both Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi were caught in censor-related issues ahead of release. While Jana Nayagan ran into major trouble, Parasakthi managed to secure certification after making 25 changes suggested by the CBFC, with the certificate arriving just a day before release. The uncertainty surrounding its release resulted in low advance bookings.
However, strong word of mouth and Sivakarthikeyan’s stardom helped the film register a solid opening. The film is performing even better in overseas markets and is enterting the ₹50 crore mark by today.
Titled after the iconic Sivaji Ganesan classic, Parasakthi is produced by Dawn Pictures and is directed by Sudha Kongara. Set against the backdrop of the 1965 anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu, the period action drama features Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, with Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, and Atharvaa in key roles. G. V. Prakash Kumar has composed the music.
