TERE ISHQ MEIN Review - Outrageously Complex!

PUBLISHED DATE | 28/Nov/2025

Premise:  Dhanush is an aggressive fighter pilot who has received a charge sheet for not following the orders. Kriti Sanon is the counselor who takes up the case. They both have a past together during their college days, the drama unfolds back and forth.

Writing/ Direction: The opening scene involves an Air Force operation, although it is not taken in some unbelievably lavish looking manner, it acts as a tool for the 7-year journey of the lead characters to come to a conclusion. Starts well with an hour of promising stuff, the college portions are so breezy that we tend to watch them with a smiling face. The contradictions between the two characters are in place, and in fact the same element is what reconnects them in the present timeline as well. The duo’s chemistry is steadily growing with some refreshing moments and cute montages, leading to the film’s best scene taking place in a hotel. If the rest of the movie had carried at least half of the momentum that was there in the initial hour, we would have a winner in hand. Spoiled by senseless situations and the issue is it keeps getting worse in the progression. The first hint we get is from the weak interval block that opens up an outdated conflict, and it is just the beginning to the chaotic second half. Kriti Sanon’s character is designed in a ridiculously complicated way, nothing feels organic or relatable after a point due to the monotonous fluctuations. It takes guts to handle a bold subject like this, kudos to Aanand L.Rai for constantly taking the hard way with his human dramas. But this one exceeds limits, the major plot-points in the later stages of the movie are at the height of randomness. Dhanush attempting to clear the UPSC exam, later moves to become a fighter pilot, these life decisions are written in the most lethargic manner possible. The devotional and patriotic angles result in vain, they don’t compliment the story by any means. It is not a boring outing as something or the other is constantly happening, but the mental agony Kriti Sanon’s character creates to the viewers is something beyond imagination. The choices she makes, her intentions behind them are all so mindless. Dhanush’s character is amateurish too, sadly it might be commercially viable as he plays this angry young man who reacts to a girl’s indecisiveness.

Performances: Solid performance from Dhanush, he fits the aggressive boy character perfectly, uttering Tamil dialogues in some extreme situations make him more natural on-screen. A very challenging role to play, Kriti Sanon has nailed it with her minute expressions, not much impact due to the lack of depth in her character, pulling down her efforts. Prakash Raj plays Dhanush’s dad, his friendly nature is admirable despite less screen time, but the ending to his role feels abrupt. The actor who played Kriti Sanon’s father did a fine job, but his character is so single dimensional throughout.

Technicalities: Heartwarming album from AR Rahman in every aspect, every single song out there sounds so good, it's great to see our Isai Puyal still creating waves with music. Absolutely no complaints with the background score as well, and bringing back the Raanjhana tune as a tease gives a nice nostalgic feel. Neat cinematography, the on-air sequences need more finesse, it did not bother much as those portions are not that critical. Dull editing with many potential scenes to be trimmed, the mistaken boyfriend episode for example, plenty of disjoint narrative transitions and parallel cuts.

Verdict:

Begins in a hopeful note with a comfort-watch first hour. It goes extreme when the tonality switches from light-hearted to the serious zone. The later half is unconventional, but the continuous blunder in writing creates complete detachment.
